Help Advance Diabetes Care for Kids

Join a Clinical Trial for a New Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM)

If your child is between 2 and 17 years old and has Type 1 Diabetes, you may be eligible to participate in a clinical trial evaluating a new CGM device—the I3 CGM—designed specifically for children. This research study is being conducted by Atlanta Diabetes Associates in Atlanta, GA and led by renowned diabetes specialist Dr. Bruce Bode, MD.

This study is sponsored by Sinocare, a leader in diabetes technology innovation.

Why Participate?

  • Better Healthcare Support: Children in clinical trials often receive more frequent check-ins and closer health monitoring than standard care.

  • Help Your Child and Others: Your participation helps improve diabetes care for your child and could benefit millions of other families.

  • Learn More: If you're curious about how clinical trials work, click the “How Clinical Trials Work” button above.

What’s Involved?

Children will wear the I3 CGM sensor for 15 days while continuing their usual diabetes care at home. The study includes a few short clinic visits, where trained professionals will monitor your child’s blood sugar levels in a safe, supportive environment.

There are no major changes to your child’s regular routine or meals—just additional monitoring to test the accuracy of the CGM.

Here’s what to expect by age group:

Ages 2–6

  • 2 sensors placed on the upper buttocks by a parent/guardian.

  • 1 clinic visit lasting about 4 hours.

  • 10–15 fingerstick glucose tests.

  • Meals provided as needed—no fasting required.

  • No manipulation of glucose levels.

Ages 7–12

  • 3 sensors worn for 15 days in two body areas.

  • 2 clinic visits (6 hours each) to check blood sugar through regular blood draws.

  • Meals and insulin provided by staff—no fasting or glucose manipulation.

Ages 13–17

  • Same as 7–12 group, but one visit will involve guided insulin and food intake to test the device's full glucose range (under medical supervision).

Who Can Join?

Your child may qualify if they:

  • Are 2–17 years old.

  • Have had Type 1 Diabetes for at least 6 months.

  • Are on a stable insulin regimen.

Your child cannot participate if they:

  • Have a history of severe hypoglycemia or diabetic ketoacidosis in the past 6 months.

  • Have other medical conditions that interfere with diabetes care or study procedures.

  • Are currently in another drug or device trial.

  • Are unable to comply with the study protocol.
